In 2004, Nordiska introduced
the first Master Series instrument in it’s offering of grand pianos; a
seven-foot, Master Series Model 215 that was acknowledged for its impressive
performance and sound qualities.
Building on that success, Nordiska unveiled a nine-foot Master Series concert
grand, a 6’1” Model 185 and then a 4’8” Model B, all of which possessed dynamic
range and amazing power.
However, the jump from a
4’8” piano to a 6’1” piano in the Nordiska Master Series line left the 5’0” and
5’5” Nordiska pianos overshadowed. Geneva
International, the U.S. importer and distributor of Nordiska, Petrof and
Weinbach pianos, instructed Nordiska to manufacture the entire grand piano line
with the same features and components used on the Nordiska Master Series
pianos. This move elevated the
performance of the instruments and provided a sense of consistency throughout
the brand.
The entire Nordiska grand
piano line now features “Master Series” components such as focused beam
structuring, a nose flange, maple rims and an exclusive leg lock system that
incorporates technology developed by the Petrof Piano Company. In addition to these new features, Nordiska
grand pianos will still employ the German-made Abel hammers, solid spruce
soundboards, solid maple bridges and other components that have long been a
part of Nordiska’s dedication to quality.
“Since we began importing
Nordiska pianos in 2000, we have been dedicated to providing a high quality
instrument that provides the customer with an exceptional value,” remarked Earl
Matzkin, President of Geneva International, “We will continue to pursue new
components and technologies to keep Nordiska atop the industry in delivering
both value and performance.”
Many of the current
components and technologies that are implemented in Nordiska grand pianos are
derived from the European pianos imported to the U.S. by Geneva
International. Features such as the
nose flange, which is incorporated in the plate during the molding process,
make it necessary to have special sand cast molds made for the production of
these instruments. The increase in the
sound quality that results from this method, however, makes it a welcome
feature. Working in conjunction with
the nose flange, the focused beam structuring of the Nordiska grand pianos
helps to channel the tonal resonance of the piano, which provides a rich and
full sound.
The most recent addition to
the family of Nordiska grand pianos is their integrated leg lock system. This new feature, designed around technology
from the Petrof Piano Company, guarantees proper alignment of the legs while
providing an increased level of safety with its unique fastening system. These leg locks eliminate stress from the
weak points of the leg by locating the locking mechanism inside the leg rather
than at the outer extremities of the leg block, providing security and
stability to the piano legs.
Nordiska pianos have come a
long way since they were first imported to the U.S. in 2000. Through working with Geneva International,
Nordiska has been able to incorporate a great deal of European technology into
their instruments due to the continuous exchange of technical information
between Geneva International and the Petrof Company. The cooperation of these companies has allowed Nordiska to reach
new levels of performance while maintaining their commitment to value.
